Hi I have a Win server 2003 SP2 work as a print server for my organization. The print spool has stop working since yesterday. It can be started but then after I open "Printer and Faxes", the print spooler service will stop. Check the event log and I found 2 relevant entries:

Searching resources online and suspect it could be due to a corrupted driver installed. However I have done all suggestion below without luck:

1. Remove everything inside %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers;

2. Remove every thing inside "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\drivers (except a folder called "color", I cant get it removed);

3. Assigned ownership of spoolsv.exe to administrators, and I'm logging in using administor.

I cannot find print management under administrative tools, not sure does it applied to Win server 2k3. I cannot go in "Server Properties" in "Printer and Faxes" due to the spooler service is stopped. I don't know is there still any place for me to delete the driver that corrupting. I also checked and confirmed that RPC service is "Started" and start automatically.

Appreciate if anyone can provide some clues.

We change one print driver on our print server and clients are prompted to install drivers for ALL canon printers

Hi Guys I have an issue that only seems to apply to Canon printers.

Print server is server 2008 (not R2) and has around 100 printers on it.

We have around 30 server 2008 (not R2) citrix servers that we install all of our required print drivers on, by connecting to different models on the print server.  We get prompted to isntall drivers once, then all users logging on will be able to use the printers withou issue.

If I add a new model of cannon printer to the print server, when users try to use any canon printers at all, they are prompted to install the drivers, which they do not have rights to do.  This is for canon printers, not just the one we added.  If I RDP to the print server then add the printer again, I also get prompted, then when I go to install, clearly no drivers are being installed, but possible some inf file is being updated.

I do not understand the way in which a client of the print server knows a driver has been changed.  Which files does it compare ?

Does it use the oem.inf and the oem.PNF file in the Windows inf directory? There is the whole list of printers in there.

Does the number after oem e.g. we are up to oem27 now need to match between the server and the clients? WHy does this not happen to HP printers ?

I need to find out why this driver install prompt is being triggered if I change any canon printer driver.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The last time this happened the new print driver was for a canon 2880, and the affected printers were ALL canons.

Printing fails for everyone except Admin

Hello.  I have a Windows Server 2003 print server.  There are many printers installed on this server and they work just fine.

However I have a HP Laserjet 200 Pro m251nw.  The printer itself is able to print fine.  When I logon the server I can print to the printer.  If I go to a workstation that has the shared printer installed I can print to it.  BUT, when i logon as a non admin account the print job errors and stays stuck in the same queue that processed the print jobs from the admin.

Here is what event viewer reports.

Event ID 33:

The PrintQueue Container could not be found because the DNS Domain name could not be retrieved.  Error: 547

This does not make sense because the admin, non admin, can ping the printer by netbios name, and FQDN and by IP address.

Here is the second event ID:

Event ID 6161:

The document Microsoft Word - Document1 owned by NONADMINuser failed to print on printer TROUBLEPRINTER. Data type: NT EMF 1.008. Size of the spool file in bytes: 321688. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client machine: \\PRINTSERVER. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 67. The network name cannot be found.

Again this makes no sense because if the admin prints from the same computer they don't get the error.  How is the name resolved by the admin and not the nonadmin?

I'm kinda at wit's end here any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

How can I add additional drivers on Windows Server 2012?

I just set up a print server on a Windows Server 2012 Standard machine.  I have all of my printers set up and they are working properly.  The only problem is that I can figure out how to add a 32 bit driver to one of the printers.  When I go to the "sharing" tab, the "additional drivers" button at the bottom is greyed out.

I was able to add a driver under the "Drivers" section of the Print Management snap, but I can't figure out how to get the 32 bit driver associated with the printer.

Windows 7 system printing code but not actual print jobss

Aloha, we have a Windows 7 System that prints all the print code instead of the graphics when printing from any application. We've deleted all the printers from the system and re-added them, we've also updated drivers at no avail. No matter what application we use (Excel, PDF, Word) the output printed is always code. Bear in mind that other people can print to the printer in question without any issues. We've run a full antivirus scan of the system as well as tried to print to other printers with the same result. Any help is much appreciated.

Print Server name sometimes shows up in uppercase, sometimes in lowercase

Hello!
We've got 3 servers (Windows Server 2003 Standard) and I'm seeing some very strange results when adding network printers while using Remote Desktop.

Example:
I Remote Desktop into ServerA.  I add a network printer from \\PRINTSERVERA\PRINTERNAME  and it shows up in my list of printers as PRINTERNAME on PRINTSERVERA.  OK.  That's cool.
Next, I Remote Desktop into ServerB.  I add the same network printer \\PRINTERSERVERA\PRINTERNAME and it shows up in my list of printers as PRINTERNAME on printservera.  Lowercase this time.

The Print Server name shows up inconsistently between servers.  I've check DNS name of the print server.  Print Drivers are all OK.  I've poked through the registry but cannot for the life of me figure out what's causing this.

Any ideas?  Anyone?

Hello

I have come across a strange situation, we have one print server installed with all our printers and printers are deployed from GPO preferences.

there is an issue with one printer, the name of the printer is case sensitive, the printer name is "Printer" appears ok on both servers. the server name however, one server1 is PRTSRV (in UPPERCASE) on server2 is prtserv (in lowercase).

how is this possible? is there any way to change it?

tried changing the name in the GPO setting, both servers are configured with Enable netbios over TCP/IP.

any suggestions?

Hello All

We are deploying w2k3 terminal server with published applications From 2x and i am using Group policy and push printerconections.exe to set up the network printers on the terminal servers at login. This is all working nicely however the printers server name is sometimes connected with a uppercase Letter for the server name to the printer and sometimes a lowercase this is not a problem for the office applications but it is a problem for our erp software. Where can I set the server name to a fixed name either Uppercase or lowercase or even upper and lower case it just needs to be the same on all clients.

Thanks in advance

Installing Epson LQ-590 32-bit driver on Server 2008 R2 64-bit

$

Hello,

I have a 64-bit server that also operates as the print-server in our domain (Win Server 2008 R2).

In our domain, I have 32-bit and 64-bit machines. For all printers I can install 32-bit and 64-bit drivers on my server, except for the Epson LQ-590 (and the LQ-2090).

I've tried to install the driver by pushing it from a workstation (32-bit) to the server (64-bit), but it doesn't work.

I've tried to copy the 32 bit drivers from a workstation to the server (as described on another thread*) but then I get the error: The given location doesn't contain the driver for EPSON LQ-590 ESC/P 2 for the requested processor - translated from Dutch)

Also Epson doesn't provide downloadable drivers for these printers as they come "in the box" with  server 2008 en Windows Vista/7.

Does anyone has an idea/suggestion on how it can be done?

I found some workarounds online, but the one that "worked" actually installed the printer locally on the workstations. (what I don't want to)

One thing I've noticed is that the name of this printer(driver) is differtent in a 32 and 64-bit Win7. Could this be the problem, as Mr Allan Morris suggests in the same thread* as mentioned above? Cause the printer can work with each driver and it is the standard driver delivered with Windows.
32 bit => EPSON LQ-590 ESC/P 2 Ver 2.0

64 bit => EPSON LQ-590 ESC/P 2

And if this is the problem, what are my options?

Thx for your suggestions!

Can't Remove Printer Drivers in Windows 7 32-bit

On one of our Windows 7 machines at work I am unable to remove any of the printer drivers that are currently installed on it. I have tried to remove them as the domain admin, and local admin with no luck.  The error I get when I try to delete the driver in the print server properties is as follows.

"Unable to remove driver blah blah, Type 3 - User Mode driver. The specified printer driver is currently in use."

There are currently no jobs waiting to be printed on any of the installed printers.

Any idea's?

Delay to start PDF Printing with ActivePDF Server on Win2008 R 1 time over 4

Dear all,

I have an issue which is still yet unsolved : we have an financial application installed on a dedicated server, pluged to an Oracle Database, that can generate reports and convert it to PDF using ActivePDF Server 2009.

Every begining of the month, over 300 documents can be print per day on this platform (users are connecting using a web browser to request the print).

When everything is running fine, the PDF conversion is starting exactly in the same time than the document generation. But one time over 4, the start of the conversion is delayed (it does not appear in Active PDF log) from minutes to 5 hours (and we can see thant the document have been generated hours ago).

Then, for an unexplained reason, the PDF conversion is starting and end very fast (some seconds, even for a 300 pages documents).

I can ensure you that :

  • Hardware on server is OK (RAM, CPU, I/O etc...)
  • The same document can be printed instantly a time, then can be generated with delayI
  • It is independant of the user that launch the job.

ActivePDF support told me that as the job is not appearing in their log means that the issue is not related to their product.

Any idea will be welcome, as we have absolutly no idea yet !

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi all,

I seem to be getting the below error while importing printers from a file in windows server 2008R2SP1.

While restoring a print queue from backup, Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) failed to copy print processor file C:\Users\RANDY~1.COB\AppData\Local\Temp\99B5DAD2-B483-4529-92C5-47C7594A837C\PRTPROCS\Windows x64\winprint.dll to C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRTPROCS\x64\winprint.dll. Error 0x5. Access is denied.
. This can occur if Printbrm.exe cannot locate all files for a print queue, or if the Print Spooler service cannot be stopped during installation of the print processor. If printing fails, manually install the print processor on the destination computer.

I have checked the printer export files against other servers and its working.
I can also add printers manually.

The error alludes to a securioty permissions error which i have check and confirmed that i have access to the both folders.
Im running the import as a Domain Admin.
I have also tried to add the printers in power shell. I get the following errors.

Please excuse the lenght of the but theres quite a few printers.

PS C:\Windows\system32\spool\tools> .\PrintBrm.exe -s localhost -r -f C:\finacleprinters862011.printerExport
Operation mode: restore

Printer Deployment - Windows 7

Hi,

We have a Windows 2008 R2 server, that has some vb scripts on it. Those vb scripts contain the printer allocations. However, it appears that on systems running Windows 7 not all the printers deploy. (Windows XP is fine) It's also random. Sometimes you get the right printers deployed, sometimes you get no printers deployed and other times you get a couple of printers deployed.

Is there something we have to change in the vb script for it to work on the Windows 7?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

George.

Server 2012 FAX Share x86 Driver - type 3 - user mode

I find it hard to believe that I see little to no one asking this question.

There is an option to add the x86 FAX print driver to the SERVER 2012 FAX Server Share.

In the past we grabbed this driver from an x86 client / install media.  There is no x86 2012.  So, the question is where does one obtain the x86 FAX TYPE 3 - USER MODE drivers to install.

Removing a role from a Hyper-V Host machine

I have a Dell PowerEdge R620 server that is configured as a Hyper-V host machine.  It is hosting 5 virtual servers.  However, I had initially set this server up without virtualization, just a physical server with many roles configured:

DHCP, DNS, GC, File and Print server.

I know this is not recommended by Microsoft, but it worked well for us.  I have recently however, purchased more licensing Installed Hyper-V (GUI install) and set up 5 new virtual servers on this machine.  I now have all of the required roles set up across my VM's.

I stripped all of the roles from my Hyper-V host (A Microsoft reccomends.)  So the only roles installed on my host are Hyper-V and File and Storage Services.

My question is, Can I remove the File and Storage Services role from the Host?  Or will this cause problems with my VM's?

Thanks in advance.

Users printers randomly going offline

We have 31 RDS servers for 586 users with all printer queues served from 1 2008R2 print server. The server is configured with 2 CPU's and 4GB or RAM.

We have 261 printer queues being served by this server. There are 164 ports to the printers. We have 40 different drivers installed for 14 different Providers. eg Hp, Canon etc

The issue that we are having is that the users printer queues will randomly go offline and in some instances they will not go back online until the user logs off and on.

When the printers are offline in the users session the printers are still reporting as online on the print server.

Both the RDS servers and the print server are located in the same vLan. Servers are all virtual with Gigabit fiber between the hosts.

[Printer Driver] Client-Server Issue: Settings made in Server is not reflected in client immediately

Hello All,

I am installing the printer driver (V3) in Server 2008 R2 as follows;
1. Add x64 printer driver (Model XYZ) to Server PC.
2. Add x86 printer driver (Model XYZ) to Server PC as "Additional Drivers".
3. Open "Configuration" tab and does some settings which is supported by the printer.
4. Open "Advanced" tab and press "Printing Defaults...".
5. Set the following settings (for Eg).
- "2 Staple" as "Staple"
- "On" as "Punch"
- "Finisher Lower Tray" as "Output"
6. Execute "Point and Print" and install x86 printer driver to Client PC (Win 7 32 Bit).
7. Open "Printer Preferences" in the client PC and confirm current settings.

[Expected Results]
The settings are as follows:
- "1 Staple" as "Staple"
- "On" as "Punch"
- "Finisher Lower Tray" as "Output"

[Actual Results]
The settings are as follows:
- "None" as "Staple"
- "Off" as "Punch"
- "Finisher Upper Tray" as "Output"

As long as we refer Microsoft developer pages, the DevDMode values are synchronized at 300 seconds. So we cannot get correct DevDMode until 1st synchronization is executed. We tried to use OpenPrinter2() and set PRINTER_OPTION_NO_CACHE flag, but cannot correct values.

Is there a way to perform faster synchronization and get the values quickly in client PC?

Warm Regards,
Sankaran

Problem with multiple instances of shared printers being installed on client computers when the spooler service is started

Hello,

We have Windows Server 2012 and clients using Windows 8.  We've been having some printer problems for awhile now that I haven't been able to figure out for the life of me.  The main problem is the fact that printers are installed on computers automatically once the drivers are installed.  The side-effect of multiple instances of each printer showing up is very annoying but I suspect fixing the initial problem will resolve this secondary one.

Here is the rundown:

  • We add the shared printers on logon to the clients using the GPO thus installing the drivers locally.
  • Whenever the spooler on the client is restarted with the drivers installed, all of theshared printers that were previously installed get duplicated 5 more times (for a total of 6 instances of each shared printer) on the "Devices and Printers" page.  This happensall the time.
  • Removing them only fixes the issue temporarily, as soon as the spooler or computer is restarted, it seems these shared printers are somehow found on the network and the duplicates return.
  • Two of these printers are located on different clients, installed locally and shared while the other three are all installed on a server and shared through it.  The issue is the same on all of them.
  • Cleaning the spooler completely (registry and files from C:\system32\spool) fixes the issue temporarily as well since, as soon as the drivers are reinstalled, the issue occurs again.

I've tried many things (disabling the GPO, editing the GPO, printer shares, registry, etc.) and searched tirelessly online for a cause and solution but I'm stumped.  Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this problem and how to resolve it?

Thanks for your time!

Update #1: I just tried adding the NoNetCrawling option in the registry found in this article -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320138/en-us

I couldn't find the same for Windows 8 unfortunately.  I also tried disabling network discovery and all other sharing options to no avail.

Update #2: I tried isolating the computer to a different subnet and restarting the spooler and, sure enough, the issue didn't occur.  This proves that the issue is network share related.  Also, as soon as I change the IP back to the regular domain subnet one, the multiple printer instances re-appeared again.

Update #3: I just tried doing the same thing but on the server where the printers are installed and shared and, sure enough, despite being in a different subnet, the issue occurred.  This leads me to believe there is a setting on this server at fault. Question is, which one?

Cannot connect to printer 0x000006bf

Environment:

Print Server:
Windows 2008 R2 SP1
HP UPD 5.7.0.16448 PCL6
Xerox GPD 5.303.16.0 PS

Client:
Windows 7 SP1 x64

Problem:

Occasionally when a user attempts to connect to a printer, they receive "windows cannot connect to the printer.  operation failed with error 0x000006bf".  If the user tries to add the printer again, it will work.

Details:

Looks like that error code translates into an RPC call failed.

C:\>winerror 0x000006bf
  1727 RPC_S_CALL_FAILED_DNE <--> 0xc002001c RPC_NT_CALL_FAILED_DNE

Doesn't appear much is out there on the web with people having this issue. Due to its transient nature, maybe under reported?  The client's print spooler isn't crashing (nothing in the event logs or WER).  Nothing interesting in Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Admin.

This error isnt in c:\windows\inf\setupapi*.log.. BUT it does show something interesting, which is probably unrelated.  In the past 3 days, there are 9 setupapi.app.<date>.logs, all 16 MB each.  Far too many than normal.  Looking in them, one can see the hpcu155u.inf driver install is looping over and over with three distinct chunks of text.

Windows is doing this every few minutes (which I believe is correlated with a print event from an application).   Thoughts?  There a hotfix for this known problem?
