Hi All,

What's the best practice to update 100s of print queues (on a print server) with the latest print drivers (PS & PCL)? Is there a MS utility to do this in bulk?

Thank you.

How to use a PrintTicket to print a document

Hi Folks,

I am aware that this is not a programming forum, however, I could not find any information related to this in Microsofts online documenation.

I have a System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument object that contains a document to be sent to a printer.  The document prints normally with one exception, the pages are in the reverse order.     I can change the settings on the document by using the DefaultPageSettings property, hoever this does not contain the ReverseOrder property.

I have found that the System.Printing.PrintTicket object can be used to set the ReverseOrder property and have done this, however, I cannot find any documenation on how to use the PrintTicket object with the PrintDocument.

Does anyone know how to apply a PrintTIcket to either a PrintDocument or to the printer itself.

Lots of winsock error 10053 on lots of print queu?!

Hey!
First of all, sorry for my bad english but i (we) have a big problem on my company.
I've just started here and have already been aware of a big problem. We have about 12 servers with 800-1000 printers on them and randomely some print jobs get "Winsock error 10053". We have of course googled it and found some explanations but i have actually no idea what's the problem?!!? It seems that the error appears randomely. On every server, differnet types of print jobs and so on. We run Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2 but it seems it happens on every one of them. The bad thing here is that if a print job gets Winsock Error it prevent every job behind it to be printed. Of course this cause a lot of problems. So i want to here if anyone have heard of any similar problem or if you have ANY idea of what i can do??

Again, sorry for my english and all help is welcomed!

Greetings JB

Server Manager online - cannot get role and feature data

I am getting the following message on both my print servers in Server managers online - cannot get role and feature data. I have reviewed event viewer and nothing points to this.

Has anyone seen this message before and what does it relate to? Also how have you been able to resolve it.

Thank you advance for your help.

LPD on Windows Server 2016

If there is no LPD what is alternative to this?

LPD helps for remote printing:

User Computer->Print Server->Another Print Server (with LPD Service listening on port 515 for incoming requests)->Printer

In above architecture assume "Another Print Server (with LPD Service listening on port 515 for incoming requests)" cannot be removed from architecture?

Without LPD how do I achieve the above?

Print queue status “Driver Update Needed”. Cause and resolution?

Hi all,

I have a scenario that I think I can explain and I also believe that I know the solution – I just need someone to confirm it :)

Got the message from an admin that all queues on his server where in the state “Driver Update Needed” and no one could print.

The setup is that we have a print cluster where all queues are shared on and then this one server where all shared queues are installed under a specific user. This is like a standard users PC – just on a server instead. Both the cluster and the stand-alone server are running Windows Server 2008 SP2.

I believe that this happens as no one is logged on at the server opening any documents to print thus not forcing an update of the driver from the print server.

The solution should be to edit the GPO:User configuration » Administrative Templates » Control Panel » Printers » Point and Print Restrictions so it is Enabled.

Is this true? Or am I missing some details/points?

Thanks for your help :)

Server 2008 R2 Fax Server MMC Locking Up

$

We had some issues with Spam coming across one of our fax numbers.  While testing different options on managing faxing from the 2008 R2 server to a Konica the print feature of one of the fax lines was disabled. Now whenever anyone tries to use the Fax Server MMC (locally or remotely from a PC) the console locks up.  I've let the locked console sit for over an hour and it's not timing out and letting me into the fax settings.  All other admin users in our company have the same problem.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?  The fax service is still working fine.  My issue is I can't get into the Fax Server MMC so I can configure the fax lines.

I'm going to be using our Saturday maintenance window to restart the server and test it.  I would like to have as much info as possible about troubleshooting it as this is a system I recently took over and I don't know all the details of this setup. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

Why is the LPD service being deprecated?

tl;dr - we use lpd as a macintosh work-around for smb; why is it being deprecated?

Hi! I'm curious about why the LPD service being deprecated. Granted, I don't know much about it, but here's why I ask:

I support a large networking environment at a big college campus. We have Windows print servers, and we have a very heavy Mac deployment (60% mac endpoints, ~350+ or so). These macs have big problem with smb authentication when they are bound to our campus AD. For some reason, when most AD users authenticate, and map a printer connection via smb, the print queue will pause. Attempting to un-pause the queue results in a prompt for AD credentials. Providing the proper credentials (With domain prefix "DOMAIN\username") does not work. The only way I've been able to bypass this problem is to use LPD instead of SMB.

Yes, I know, this is really a Mac issue. But it's the reason that, for now, we cannot see a way around LPD.

Access to remote Windows 2012 R2 Fax Server from remote Windows 2012 R2 Server

Hello,

I feel as though I am missing something very simple, but the answer eludes me.

The configuration is quite simple.

Site 1 Configuration:

2 virtual Windows 2012 R2 servers, one acting as AD DC, and one as a member server. I have passed a PCI 56k fax modem through VMWare to the member server and setup a Fax Server on the member server. I have 5 users that RDP to the member server to access their applications, including the fax, and it works perfectly.

Site 2 Configuration:

1 virtual Windows 2012 R2 Server joined to the the Site 1 domain via a VPN. Again, 5 users RDP into this server for access to their applications. I can browse to / see the shared fax on the member server back at Site 1. When I double click and add the fax printer it installs but comes up with an "Can not locate mgrOCsvr.exe", basically it can't find Windows Fax / Scan Manager when you try to print to it. I've added Fax Server to the Site 2 server, which didn't help either. When Windows Fax and Scan asks if there is a local fax or network fax device, it doesn't allow me to add \\<site one member server name or IP\Fax.

I assumed from the remote server, this would be as simple as double click the shared fax, install and go.

I would appreciate any input as to what I am doing wrong, or if this can even be done between 2 Windows 2012 R2 Servers in an RDP environment.

Thank you for any information that can be provided.

Thanks,

Luke

Can't Print: Access Violation at address XXXXXXXX in module '...exe'. Read of Address XXXXXXXX.

Hi,

We are currently working with a software company who provides us our inventory management software.  We access their software through Remote Desktop.  We print locally from this remote desktop by using port forwarding settings on our router. On a daily basis we see this message and are unable to print.  The software company suggests we change the default printer every time this happens and then set it back. This is a major productivity hinderance and happens so many times - is there a better way to actually permanently fix this issue?  The software company doesn't seem to be able to figure it out.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Things we have done to date:

1. Rewired our entire network (software company originally blamed our wiring)

2. Replaced our printer (software company originally blamed that it was our HP printer so we switched to brother)

3. Upgraded our computers and increased our internet speeds (software company originally blamed our internet)

Error Message:

I currently running a Windows Server 2012 in multi-point Server for a project

i installed the drivers of the printer in console mode of the multi-point server and got it work both in servicing (clean, ink flush etc.) and in casual use (printing jobs) in console mode. now the problems emerge when i change it to Station mode. suddenly i cannot use the printer for print jobs but i can service it (every servicing like test print, clean and head align works on station mode) it always said cannot connect to the printer every time i print.

things to note

after i installed the driver of the printer in create 2 print queue for console mode and station mode naming the other with an addition copy1 and can only use one corresponding to its selected mode.

both mode using an administrative account.

no station is active while installing and troubleshooting the printer.

i already done installing the driver on station mode first but same result cannot print.

i have multiple host stations showing same results.

host station specs

CPU: Ryzen 7 1700x

Ram: 32gb ddr4

GPU: GTX 1050ti

OS: Windows Server 2012 Multi-Point

Your file could not be printed due to an error on \\printsrvr\prrntplotter on e06:

Hi,

A few co-workers of mine are getting this error "Your file could not be printed due to an error on \\printsrvr\prrntplotter on e06:"

but others including myself are not having any trouble. We've checked all of the suggestions that are in the message. We've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the printer, we've turned computers and other devices off and on again. One of my co-workers who's in IT with me, he was having this issue, managed to fix the problem on his end by simply updating Microsoft office and then did a force gpupdate. I tried this on the other problem computers but to no prevail. And we have been all trying to print the same excel file. Also every computer can print to all of the other printers in the building just fine.

Running out of ideas on how to solve this.

HI,

I've just bought a Windows laptop with Windows 10s , version 1079 and I'm unable to install the correct drivers to connect to my printer. I've logged a call with the team from Ricoh who advised that the printer is not compatible with my version of Windows. I'm finding that hard to believe, is there any truth to it?

Print Server Issue

Hello,

i created a print server, but the problem when someone add a printer to his computer all apps can't manage it.

For example Chrome, Edge, Windows Photos, Libre office can't change paper size, orientation etc. It prints whatever are the settings on the driver.

It does not matter if the logged account is admin or user and it's not permissions on the printers, i tried it. The problem is only if the printer is

shared on the server, if the printer is installed on the PC its okay.

Offline Branch Printing is enabled and i set a GPO that allows users to install printer drivers without admin rights if that matters.

Only MS Office 2013 can manage shared printer.

Server: Windows Server 2012 R2

Installing x32 (additional drivers) for shared printer on a win 7 x64 laptop using client win 8.1 x32 bit tablet (Help please)

I setup a laserjet 3050 pcl5 printer on a Win 7 x64 bit OS note book computer. Now I a have a tablet that has win 8.1 x32 bit OS I managed to set the HOME Group for sharing but cant get the 8.1 tablet to access the network printer. I went to the share option of the printer and tried to add x 32 drivers but I cant get the drives to load. there are several exe files on the HP website I am not sure which one is supposed to work. Please forgive my ignorance in this task this is the first time I am trying to do this.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-3050-all-in-one-printer/1140783

This is where I was expecting to get the x32 drivers for 8.1 windows OS. Should I be getting win 7 x32 drivers? that would not make sense since the tablet has got 81 windows x32.

Thanking you in advance for your help
