Server 2016 Essential
Print spooler is causing Office products to hang on Windows Server 2016 Remote Gateway Server.
I recently deployed a new Windows 2016 Server Remote Desktop Gateway server. Users login to the server to run Excel and Word. Printers are configured via Printer Management/Deploy with Group policy. When the print spooler is running Word and Excel hang at the logo. The CPU usage spikes. When I disable the print spooler everything works fine except, of course, printing.
Is there a way to exclude the printers from being loaded via group policy when users login use the Remote Desktop server but continue to load when the use their Windows 10 computers on the LAN? Is there a better work around or fix?
HP LJ P1102
It prints on a local PC, but doesn't on RDS. Error 0x80070057. Source Catalog.
I installed the Universal PCL6 driver on a local PC and try it on RDS. There is no error messages and the test page is send to the printer, but it doesn't print. Any solutions ?
Printer Preferences settings
Hi all,
I'm trying to troubleshoot a strange issue:
Altough the user printer prefrences are correctly set, when invoking from a program the print job, the printers take different settings.
So question is:
Are there, in Windows client SOs, different setting stored for the PC and users ?
I need to align the PC settings with the user one.
Thanks

Enable Branch Office Direct Printing with C#
Hi everyone.
I work on a RESTful service in WCF (C#) to manage Print Queues remotely on hundreds print servers (Windows Server 2012 R2). I use WMI classes (Win32_Printer, Win32_PrinterConfiguration, Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort...etc) and System.Management/System.Printing namespaces to achieve that. All works flawlessly, I can create my shared/published print queues in AD, with corresponding port and driver as well, througth a website dedicated for that.
But, I can not activate BODP (Branch Office Direct Printing) programmatically with C#. Win32_Printer and System.Printing doesn't provide a way to do that. I found that there is no function in .NET Library to easely change BODP functionality for a printer
queue.
The only solution that I found is to put a Powershell script containing Add-Printer cmdlet with "-RenderingMode 'BranchOffice'" parameter on each print server and then call this script remotely with my WCF API to create the printer queue with BODP enabled.
Add-Printer
-Name "$QUEUE_NAME"
-DriverName "$DRIVER_NAME"
-PortName "$PORT_NAME"
–Published
-Shared
-ShareName "$SHARE_NAME"
-Comment "$QUEUE_COMMENT"
-Location "$QUEUE_LOCATION"
-PrintProcessor 'winprint'
-Datatype 'RAW'
-RenderingMode 'BranchOffice'
But this is not a viable way, I think there is a better way to do that.
Maybe by coaxing the Win32 API structures into .NET using System.Marshal could be a solution. I found this article to change printer default settings using this technique :https://www.edinkapic.com/2011/01/how-to-set-printer-default-paper-bin-in.html
Maybe this is possible for Branch Office Direct Printing too ?
Is there any way to enable Branch Office Direct Printing with C# ?
Best regards.

Windows 10 apps don't print in color to a color printer by default
How do I change Windows 10 apps like Edge and Photos, so that the default "Color mode" is "Color" instead of "Monochrome"?

Migrating print queues from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2016
I have a 2008 R2 server that has 340 print queues shared on a domain.
I am being asked to replace this server with a 2016 server, and looking for advice on doing this, what to avoid, any pitfalls, etc.
If I export using the Print Management tool, export printers to a file, will I be able to import them in 2016 without losing settings?
2 problem - 1:Unknown printer that do works but... 2: Printer multiplication
Terminal server environment on windows server 2012 r2.
Ok so i've had problem with duplication (left side of the screenshot). So i've deleted it, gpo recreate with 1 less but on relog it re-add an other one. had the same problem with the 2 unknown printer on the same screen, but those i've deleted them and they are comming back as unknown (but they are working, just can't be assign as default sinse they are unknown).
What i've did (all no go).
- delete printer, log out log back in.
- Changed the driver.
- Deleted the user profile and recreate it.
- Create new profile with different username... now that works but it's not the right way to doit
yes everything as ben uncheck in the terminal server so there is nothing linking the pc to the server.
I just don't know where to go from here, seams that profile, even if deleted, making me go crazy. Is there somewhere i can dele in the registry or duno... open minded here for anything ... no reformating is not a solution (well it is but...)
Thanks !
MICROSOFT account problem, can't add picture atm.....
Mental img for the moment:
unknown printer = img of a printer withe the name unknown printer
Multiple printer = right click on printer and you get on the "printer properties" multiple name of the same printer.
Problems with Fax Manager (2012 R2) routing received faxes via email
I am having issues with the fax service manager routing emails. This used to work OK, but I recently changed the location of the active directory servers.
I had active directory loaded on 3 servers that were also hypervisors. I created 3 new VM active directory servers, and demoted the base hypervisors. All works Ok in the network (actually one more issue, but will deal with it elsewhere - with fileshares from a a non-domain computer), except since that time, the fax service manager will not route emails.
I have Win Server 2012 R2 as the base server hoisting the fax service manager.
It is configured with the SMTP settings as per
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2008-R2-and-2008/cc732281(v=ws.11)
I am using Integrated Windows Authentication, and have entered an Administrator Account with its password - it does not seem to check if the password is OK, as if I enter a wrong password on purpose, it still accepts it.
Incoming Methods has the route through email enabled, and on properties I have the email address it should go to
I have tested SMTP Sending via powershell as a test, and it works (on the same base server)
https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/11-test-email-flow-using-smtp-commands
When receiving a fax, the fax is received OK, but not redirected to email. I can view the fax in Windows Fax and Scan, both on the server, and remotely on other fax and scan installations connected to this shared fax.
I get the following errors in the event viewer
Error #1
Unable to route fax C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue\1D468D4322FDC.tif to the requested e-mail address.
The following error occurred: 0x80040211
This error code indicates the cause of the error.
Check the SMTP server configuration, and correct any anomalies.
Error #2
The Fax Service failed to execute a specific routing method. The service will retry to route the fax according to the retries configuration. If the retries fail, verify routing method configuration.

I only found old info for SBS 2011 or 2008, and it dopes not appear to be a common occurrence in 2012 R2
The Fax Service Manager has Log On As - as the Network Service (I tried no password, or the Local Server Administrator Password). I also tried the local service account, but that did not seem to work either.
Any ideas?
Local Printer on one server shared through another??
Hi there,
I have a ServerA (2008 R2 x64) with a virtual printer on it. I have another ServerB (2008 x86) with the Print Services installed, this is where all the printers are. I am unable to remove this virtual printer and install it on ServerB.
Therefore I was wondering whether it would be possible to add/share the printer to/from ServerB's Print Services. So on the users end it would seem that the printer was on ServerB not on ServerA.
Any help or general advice would be brilliant. If any more details are needed just ask.
Explorer.exe not responding / SLOW printing
Hi,
I am currently running a Terminal Server on Windows 2012 R2 with all the latest updates installed.
We have a print server also running on a different 2012R2 machine.
Printing is really slow.. If I open printer properties and click Print Test page it takes up to 30 seconds until the dialog box "A test page has been sent to your printer" shows up.
I also notice while having Resource monitor running during these tests that explorer.exe goes to "not responding" and then goes back to running once the dialog box pops up.
I have uninstalled the anti-virus (trend) as well, but no difference.
I ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
and sfc /scannow
I'm running out of ideas on what to try next..

Is Windows 10S compatible with the Ricoh MP C3003 printer?
HI,
I've just bought a Windows laptop with Windows 10s , version 1079 and I'm unable to install the correct drivers to connect to my printer. I've logged a call with the team from Ricoh who advised that the printer is not compatible with my version of Windows. I'm finding that hard to believe, is there any truth to it?
share IPP printer in server 2012
Hello,
I want to set up a server 2012 print server to share cups printers. These cups printers are available as IPP printer.
I can add an IPP printer all right on the server, but I don't have the option to share that printer.
It simply tells me "Sharing is not suported for this type of printer"
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Print Server Configuration on win server 2012 R2
Hi,
I am installing Win server 2012 R2 Print server, Latest drivers of HP printers are not installing.
It generate Event Id's
215-Installing printer driver - failed, error code 0x57, HRESULT 0x80070057. See the event user data for context information.
And not able to install printer drivers.
Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 122. The data area passed to a system call is too small.
Anyone got any ideas when a user prints through windows 2012 R2 RDS server using printer redirection getting the following message
The document Print Document, owned by pete, failed to print on printer Michelle (redirected 2). Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.Data type: RAW. Size of the spool file in bytes: 110709. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \\SERVER. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 122. The data area passed to a system call is too small.
I've deleted the user profile on the RDS server, updated the print driver on the local machine to the latest driver, and installed the latest driver to the server and set that as their default printer and still getting the issue. Other users are working fine so a bit stumped on this one and would appreciate a fresh outlook on it.
Thanks
Cannot print PDF files, word / excel works.
Hi,
Hardware /Software
- Konica Minolta c454e Network printer
- AdobeReader (latest Ver.)
- Adobe Acrobat (latest Ver.)
Windows 2012 R2 Terminal- and Print server
The Issue:
Some users cannot print .pdf files from AdobeReader or Internet Browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer).
They have to reconnect (remove broken printer and then add it again) the network printer to make this work again. Unfortunately the problem reoccurs after some weeks.
Troubleshooting:
- Installed the general printer drivers instead of the specific one.
- Setup a new Printserver
Everytime a user cannot print a PDF the printer config window looks like this:
Evertime a user can print a PDF the printer config window looks like this:
As you can see, when it's working the Option " Print on both sides" is available. I don't know if this helps troubleshooting this.
