Question about fonts (Win 7) + Adobe Illustrator

$

We often draw different maps of Asia cities, which use complex fonts.
My Illustrator is set up to supporting east languages, including hieroglyphs.
But after editing and saving, then opening, some fonts are converted to curves. Without dependency  of Adobe Illustrator version.
How can I fix this problem?
Not only the east language group presents this problem. Sometimes it appears with polish, spanish and portuguese language. Some ideas?

Windows 2008 R2 print server security on MAC

$

Hi there,

We have a Server 2008 R2 Print Server hosting a few hundred print queues.  One of those queues has restrictive security permissions in place so that only a few people can print to the queue.  In addition to this, the actual printer's embedded web page has been configured to only accept network traffic from the print server's segment -- this should prevent anybody from bypassing the queue and printing directly.  However, it seems that anybody on a MAC can print to the print queue using LPD and it will completely ignore the queue's permissions.  I have verified through event logs on the print server that the job in fact went through the queue (and wasn't printed to the printer directly). Here's a PrintServer event log example with identifying information scrubbed...

TimeCreated  : 9/10/2018 3:34:48 PM
ProviderName : Microsoft-Windows-PrintService
Id           : 307
Message      : Document 93, 102365.pdf owned by SmithJ (IP Address) on \\PrintServer was printed on SecureQueue through port IPAddress.  Size in bytes: 76494930. Pages printed: 0. No user action is required.

When I check the effective permissions of SmithJ on SecureQueue it shows he should not have permission to print to the queue.

When discussing the possibility of restricting user's ability to map THIS print queue, I was advised by the MAC admin that it's impossible to restrict the mapping of just one print queue without restricting the ability to map others -- so that idea was tabled.

Any ideas/suggestions/help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Windows 2016 Server Error 0x00000003 when connecting printer to workstation

Environment:

2 servers

Windows server 2016 3 printers installed VIA TCP/IP.

Windows Server 2008 R2 same 3 printers are installed over TCP/IP with same drivers.

Workstations include Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines all x64 bit.

1st printer is a Xerox Work Centre 7830 with a Work Centre 7830 PostScript Driver installed.
The printer is installed on the Windows 2016 server and prints from the server. I have shared the printer on the server and have listed it in the directory. There are additional drivers that should allow the printer to connect to a x64 device.  When I try and connect to the printer through the Active Directory on the 2012 server it finds the printer,
starts to look for a driver and then fails with error code 0x00000003. This happens on all x64 bit machines both Windows 7 and Windows 10.

I CAN connect to the Xerox printer and print from a workstation if it is coming from the Windows server 2008 R2.

Everything is the same (drivers, ports) across the 2 servers 2008 R2, 2012.

The 2nd printer, is a SHARP MX-C300P that is installed on the 2016 server, and shared over the directory. It has a generic Microsoft PCL 6 driver. When I try and connect the printer to a windows 7 machine, I get the same 0x00000003 error. When I try to connect the printer to a Windows 10 machine the printer connects just fine. I have looked over all of the settings and everything seems to be working.

I CAN connect to the Sharp printer and print from a workstation if it is coming from the Windows server 2008 R2.

Everything is the same (drivers, ports) across the 2 servers 2008 R2, 2012.

The third and final printer is a Kyocera CS 3253ci. It is installed with a KX universal print driver. I get the same error 0x00000003 when trying to connect to Windows 10 machines and Windows 7 machines when connecting with the Windows 2012 Server.  Everything works fine when I connect to the printer from Windows Server 2008 R2. I can connect the Kyocera printer to a Win 10 machine using the 2008 R2 server and then connect the printer using the Windows server 2016 and it works. There must be something going on with the 2016 server?  I've been battling this for a couple of weeks and would love any help.

I have Googled this error and nothing has worked to fix it. I can provide more information but really need this fixed.

Thanks

I recently purchased and installed Windows Server 2016 Essential on my server. After installing it I have tried to send out faxes using the Windows Fax & Scan and the faxes seem to go through but the Server itself crashes/restarts every single time. Why is this happening and how can I fix it so that the server doesn't crash and restart when I try to send a fax using the Windows Fax & Scan application. Any help would be greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Inactive TS Port and performance issues

Hi,

We're having a lot of problems regarding performance on our Windows Server 2012 R2.

When loggin in it stays on 'Applying Group Policy Printers' for 5 - 10 minutes. This is on all of our Terminal Servers, which are also Windows Server 2012 R2.

I've Google'd and found out that 'Inactive TS Ports' could have something to do with this.

We have on our DC 321 inactive ports, on each TS we have 70 - 90 inactive ports.

I've read that those ports should be deleted after a TS restart. All of our TS restart daily so that couldn't be it. (Maybe it's disabled ?)

My main question is:
Can we delete the register keys that are including these inactive ports without any possible problems? And how can we prevent these ports from being made in the future?

I would love to hear your ideas. Please let me know.

Best regards,

Paul

Modem wave playback by Windows Fax app

$

Windows Fax and Scan app on a latest Win 10 64-bit PC sends and receives faxes OK, but when sending faxes via my Conexant USB Data Fax Modem with Unimodem Audio device driver, there is no wave playback of fax rings via PC speakers: neither the outgoing PC fax ringing, no the destination fax reply rings, no documents transmit sound. Faxes of course work, ring and communicate to establish connection and send & receive documents, but the rings won't sound through PC speakers.

Its very annoying to observe total silence at sending faxes. How I can enable sending and replying fax rings playback through default Windows speakers? Found nothing on the web and in Help about it. InTools - Fax Settings - Tracking all Sound Options are enabled by default, but even there I can't find the option to play outgoing and receiving faxes rings exchange.

May be I should enter an extra initialization string for wave playback in Device Manager's Fax Device Properties - Advanced tab? How such string should look like for Conexant CX930XX chipset used by the Fax Modem? I tried ATM2<CR>+VSP1<CR>, but still no ring or document transmit sound played by PC speakers.

How to modernize Internet Printers Web Page For Better Browser Compatibility?

$

We deployed the http://PrinterServer/Printers page on a Server 2016 Standard server and it works OK for computers on our domain, but only in Internet Explorer.  Computers on our domain probably won't use the page since it has no apparent advantage over using Windows 10 add printer dialogs.

So, the primary use for this page would be for contractors and visitors with PCs not joined to our domain to be able to easily add printers.

However, it is NOT easy at all.  It is much worse for non-domain joined computers.  IE won't show the Connect link unless they enable Compatibility view settings AND add the printers page to their Trusted sites.  This is not user friendly or intuitive at all and it's ridiculous for them to have to add our entire domain to compatibility view since that may break modern sites that works best in native mode.

Are there any settings we can change on the print server web page to make the Printers page Connect links work without special compability settings in IE?

Are there any other workarounds such as using a custom page to share printers and copy the Connect link URLS there?

It's annoying that the page "looks" so dated, but what's worse than cosmetic appearance is that it doesn't work in any modern browsers and doesn't even work in IE 11 without tinkering with Internet Options settings.

Hello,

I do some work as an msp and a clients computer showed 3 additional printers randomly on her windows 7 machine.  The printers have been labeled with someones name, but it is not someone who has ever worked at the company.  There is one that says send to onenote 2013 but in properties says its a konica, a pdf creator that goes to an epson, and an epson that says its also a konica.  I dont think they have any konica printers in the office, i think theyre all hp. Anyone had this happen before?

In our organization we are using Toshiba MFP`s. All these printers are using same driver (TOSHIBA Universal Printer 2). Issue is when user give print few jobs were getting stuck and it forces other print jobs to wait for spooling. When i check print job details in print server i could see Datatype : XPS2GDI jobs only getting stuck.

As per my understanding print job getting stuck when user give print from IE (edge) & photo viewer application only.

We are using Windows 10 64bit Enterprise & Windows 7 64bit Enterprise version Operating System. Kindly help me to resolve this weird issue.

Printing Problem with Epson LX-300+ii and LX-310 in Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit

I recently installed Windows Server 2012 R2 64-Bit.

We have Printer Epson LX-300+ii and LX-310 (dot-matrix) that we share among users. Each user access the Server using Remote Desktop. From previous experience with Windows Server 2008, I knew that these printers will be problematic, especially regarding the Easy Print driver.

And I was right, using the Easy Print driver, I got the following result:

And so, I did manual mapping & disable the "Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first". Haha, what a surprise, I got the following result:

And so I uninstalled the printer driver, and install it again, thinking that I might chose a wrong driver, but.... same result. I know for sure that I chose the correct driver.

Next, I tried connecting the printer DIRECTLY to the server. Log-in to the Server directly, not using Remote Desktop. And tried printing again, haha... really... what a surprise... I got the same problem here !!!

So now I know the problem is not the Easy Print driver, not mapping or registry problem either. It's the print driver. This is SUPER FRUSTRATING, I tried the same driver from the same CD in Windows 8.1 64-Bit with no problem. I tried it too in Windows 7 32-Bit with no-problem either. But somehow, this driver is problematic in Windows Server 2012 R2.

Any help? Anybody else bump into this same problem ? I'm close to giving up, been spending too much time figuring out this damn thing.

Print Server Migration

Hello, I'm attempting to take an existing Windows7 print server and export it to a file via the print management console for migration to a 2008R2 server.  When I attempt to export the printers I get an error message "The print server specified could not be found.  Please check the name and try again" I have attempted this both on my local computer and on the windows 7 machine itself with the same result.  I thought this might have been a firewall issues so I turned it of with the same result.  Is there possibly a service I need running that may not be turned on?

Common Printer Access

Dear All,

We are using 12 Kyocera Taskalfa printers in our site.

We have setup those printers on print server which is Win 2012 R2.

We have created the profiles as per floor wise and on each floor we have printers on right and left each.

Now the problem which we are facing is that if a user of third floor right-side is on sixth floor left-side and wants to take a print on the sixth floor printer then he has to either go to the third floor for the print or sent the file to be printed to a user on sixth floor.

Now what we require is that if a user on any floor sends a print, it should be available on all printers and user can go to any printer and print his file by using his AD ID. Once printed, the print will be flushed out from all the printers.

Is it possible to configure such setup?

Need assistance in determining the root cause of 0 KB SHD and SPL files in Windows 2008 Print Server SPOOLER

$

0

We run a single Windows a 64-bit 2008 Server Standard Edition SP 1 print server.  This server hosts approximately 400 print queues from a variety of vendors.  To share these printers we use roughly 75 different drivers which allows both 32 and 64 bit versions of XP, Vista and Windows 7 clients to print through the server.

We have begun noticing an issue with 0KB .SHD and .SPL files in the  \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\PRINTERS folder which are causing excessive CPU utilization. We have been manually removing this file, which restores the CPU utilization to normal, but the files quickly return. Our understanding is that these files are either remints of completed jobs that were not properly deleted or files from malformed print jobs (due to corrupt print jobs). Many times we can open these files in a text editor and see details about the job, such as the user and destination print queue, other times file in unreadable. When the file is unreadable it appears that it may still print properly, e.g. just because we are unable to read the file does not mean it is a corrupt print job.

Based on research we have found several scripted solutions that will periodically remove 0KB filed from the spooler. However, this requires stopping and re-starting print services on the server. We are seeing 0KB files appear in increments of as little to 5 to 10 minutes. We do not want to stop the server that often.  We are looking for a method to determine the origin of these files, and potentially what is causing their failure. Ideally, we would like to do this from the files themselves, but are willing to do this through supplemental logging on the printers. E.G. Track the time stamp on the file back to print jobs in the Windows Event log.

Any information, suggestions, or recommendation on parsing or preventing these files would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Print server started printing blank labels for two printers of the same type for unknown reason

$

Summary
We print hundreds of labels daily on the printer BT03:packtec5 via label system BARTENDER.
For days labels have printed without a hitch, then suddenly the labels came out blank on one particular brand of printer.
Even a reboot of the host didn't clear out the problem.

Environment (simplified)
Print Server Host: BT00 (Win2012)
Client Host      : BT03 (Win2012)
Client Host      : BT02 (Win2012 - Clone of BT03)

Two Printers on Print Server BT00 (both same models)
packtec5 Driver Kiaro-2.2
packtec6 Driver Kiaro-2.2

Client Printers "connect" to server (using point and print)
Client           Server
BT03:packtec5 -> BT00:packtec5
BT03:packtec6 -> BT00:packtec6
BT02:packtec5 -> BT00:packtec5
BT02:packtec6 -> BT00:packtec6

Diagnose Steps
Sent a print job to similar printer BT03:packtec6
- Label came out blank
Rebooted Host computer to force reset of OS and Bartender in memory
Sent same job through BT03:packtec5 again
- Label came out blank
Sent same job through alternate host BT02:packtec5
- Label printed OK!

** Summarize: Printer itself ok, problem on host BT03
Dropped printer BT03:packtec5, then re-established "Connect" to BT00:packtec5
Thinking was driver went bad and this would reload Driver from BT00

Sent same job through BT03:packtec5
- Label printed OK!
Sent same job through BT03:packtec6 (which should be using same driver)
- Label came out blank

** Summarize: Problem not in driver
Dropped BT03:packtec6, then "Connect" to BT00:packtec6
Sent same job through BT03:packtec6
- Label printed OK!

** Summarize: Point-Print connection problem?
Questions
=========
1) What could have damaged the Point-Print connection?
2) How could Point-Print allow print jobs to create, but have no content?

TIA
