Network Faxes

$

Hi, we have just installed an HP Laserjet Enterprise MFP M527F in a doctors office.  The fax capabilities are not as good as an older machine they had.  As its a doctors office they need to keep records of all fax transmissions for a few year.  The HP will only keep the last 500 faxes on the machine and that's it.  The HP faxing software on the network will keep less.  They need to have this information so I am wondering what options I have, any advise or help is appreciated.

Many thanks, Chris.

USB Shared Printer

I have upgraded the hardware/software in one of my departments. The machines are now running Windows 10 but we have kept the old label printer (Zebra GX430t.) This is compatible with Windows 10.

It prints from the machine its connected to via USB, I have then shared this Printer over the network but no other computers can connect and print. I keep running into this:

We can't connect to the print server. This happens if the printer was renamed, deleted or moved to a different network.

Printer: ZDesigner GX430t on WS140

Path: WS140.internal.domain.school.nz\ZDesigner GX430t

Error: #1722

Any suggestions?  I have done some research but I haven't had much luck yet.

I would love to get this going so we can print labels from the Inwards Goods computer.

LPR Issue

Hi All,

Just wondered if there was a way to increase the amount of ports LPR uses when a job is submitted?

We have an application that uses LPR - Its gets through 11 jobs fine, but on the 12th it pauses and times out.

We've put in the registry entry to use non standard ports but that hasn't helped.

Things also tried

- Changing port to use LPR

- Untick render print jobs on client computers

- Enable Branch office printing

All proved unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated.

Server is 2016 standalone, running on as a VM.

We have recently built a new windows 2016 server with print management. The issue we are seeing is that the printers we have deployed are no longer showing in AD or when try find a printer from the directory it shows no listings. If I select all the printers in print management and click List in Directory and they then appear again back in AD and when adding a printer via find a printer in the directory. This is happening every day and I can't find anything in the event log to say why this keeps happening.

Has anyone come across this before or at ideas?

IPP Spooling Problem

I recently deploy a Windows Server 2008 Print Server to replace our older Windows 2000 Print Server. Prior to the new server users connected via UNC to the shared printers. Because of our environment we decided to use IPP and let people add printers through a web page instead. I have been getting complaints that people are printing documents but nothing is coming out. Upon further inspection, I realized that if you attempt to print a large document (i.e. 10MB Adobe PDF Document) if fails to print. It will start to spool then says Error. If you connect to the same printer via UNC and try to print the same document, everything works fine. Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this issue?

Thank you.

Print jobs blocking the print server

Hello All,

I am faced with a strange problem with print jobs blocking the print server.
There is a dedicated Windows Server 2012 R2 print server with about 20 printers installed which serves 200 users. For several years, the server worked without failures. Printers driver are updated regularly.

Last year, we started migrating client’s PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and from that moment on, problems started occurring. The print job hangs with the status “Printing” and block all subsequent tasks. You cannot delete it from the queue, you need to restart the print service.

The following analysis of the problem shows that:

-  The problem occurs on three Canon color printers only (drivers PCL6 v.21.85 and UFRII v.30, models iR-ADV C7260, iPR C700 and iR-ADV C5235)

- The problem occurs only for clients with Windows 10 installed that print from native Win10 applications, most often PDF files opened in MS Edge and images opened in Photo App.

- The problem occurs in one case out of ten

-  Datatype of the blocked print job is specified as XPS2GDI (usually RAW)

What was done:

- tried to reinstall the driver

- changed port parameters from RAW to LPR

did not help.

I tried the “Print directly to the printer” option - it's very strange but after a while setup switch back to  (Spool print documents)

I don’t know where to look anymore. I’ll appreciate any help possible.

Thank you in advance

Assistance to migrate print server from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2019

Hi Guys,

We are trying to move our print server from Windows Server 2008R2 to Windows Server 2019. Our print server contains more than 300 print queues and drivers. We have planned to migrate the print queues using inbulit Printer migration tool but getting error message "Printbrm.exe (the Printer Migration Wizard or the command-line tool) failed to place a file in cabinet (CAB) file E:\printbackup.printerExport while backing up print queues. Error reported: 0x80070070. There is not enough space on the disk.This can occur if the user does not have permission to create a file in the destination location, or if there is insufficient disk space or system resources."

I have tried Printbrm command utility tool as well with Nobin option but it is not helping as since most of the drivers are not getting exported. Do we have any other way of overcoming this 2GB CAB file size and do this migration via built in tool. Printers are configured at numerous sites and applications as well. Doing manual installation of printer drive and adding print queue is also hard way :( Can anyone help?

Does Windows 2008 Fax Server support Multifunction (MFD) or All In One (AIO) devices?

I would like to set up the Fax Server on Windows 2008 (Enterprise Edition).  I don't have a Fax Modem but I do have multifunction devices (Brother, Canon, HP) and I was wondering if I would be able to connect to one of these devices or does the Fax Server only work with Fax Modem cards installed in the server?  If it does support these devices, I'm assuming I would need to connect it using USB to the server as opposed to using the built-in network interface card?

Same question for Windows Server 2003 (Enterprise Edition).

Thanks in advance for any help

Is there a way we can configure a gpo/settings so users cannot map to the network printer directly using it's IP address?

But they should be able to map it via print server - \\printserver\sharename\.

How to grant user the permission to install print driver?

Hi,

We have Windows 2008 domain. Our domain users don't have the local admin privilege for their computers and for security reason we won't give them the local admin right.

Now we will deploy a new printer and we have 1000+ users. How can we install the printer for the end user without giving them the local admin right?

Need help!

Thanks in advance!

print server on Windows 2016 - slow printer mapping when printer is offline

$

Hello,

first let me say that my english is not very will, but I will do my best.

I need to migrate our old 2008 R2 print server (around 130 printer) to a new 2016 server. Migrating printer / drivers was not a big deal. The wizzard was able to install all drivers and printers. Mapping and printing over the new server worked as expected.

After some testing I realized that mapping a printer tooks some time (somthing around one minute) when the printer isoffline. If I turned the printer on again it just tooks some seconds to map them. The problem occours with hp upd 6.6 and 5.7.

The problem only occours if print server is windows server 2016 and clients are windows 2016 or windows 10.

The printer driver are preinstalled on the clients.

server 2016 -> windows 10 = slow

server 2016 -> server 2016 = slow

server 2008 R2 -> server 2016 = fast

server 2008 R2 -> windows 7 = fast

server 2008 R2 -> server 2008 R2 = fast

Someone got an idea?

Thanks a lot.

XPS Document Writer and MS Print to PDF printer write zero-byte empty files

$

On a fresh install of Windows Server 2019 in the RDSH role and after installing applications for users and configuring them, I found that the XPS writer and MS PDF printer both create zero-byte files with no errors either popping up or in the Event logs.

Focusing on the XPS printer first, I've tried reinstalling it manually (and electing to replace the driver, ) as well as via DISM (dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:Printing-XPSServices-Features after disable-feature), but the problem remains. Permissions on %TEMP% and the system temp dirs are default, and I do see two TMP files written then erased within a second after I try a test page, so folder permissions seem good. I also did sfc /scannow which only fixed some Admin tools shortcuts I removed from all users but the problem remains.

What else can I try?
